Oedipus Rex
Today we will have a quiz on your reading of
Oedipus Rex and then gather to discuss. After our discussion please answer the following questions:
- Do you feel pity for Oedipus? Is he a good man? Why or why not?
- Could Oedipus have escaped his fate? Why or why not?
- How much control do we have in our own lives? Are we all subject to fate? How much of our lives are decided by genetics, social class, gender, upbringing, accidents, choices we make (big and small), etc.????
Please write a ONE PARAGRAPH response to EACH question. Must be a full paragraph meaning at least 5 sentences. Must be written in complete sentences; meaning the question should be restated in your response. Due Next Monday (4/20)
Check out the following video for some in-depth info about the story and major themes:
Research Project
Please continue to update and edit your research paper. You will have one final check in before your presentations due on April 27th. Remember, your paper must be at least 8 pages in length, be in the appropriate MLA format, and contain a strong thesis.
For your visual presentation please look at the
following rubric to understand how your presentation will be graded.
Your presentation should have a standing visual (tri-fold board) to display your topic. Each student will get their own desk to display their project. Any additional space needed should be worked out with me well in advance. Your visual should clearly display your topic and other important information, including thesis or essential question, surrounding your topic. It will also contain charts, graphs or other visual information. Your board should be creative and visually pleasing. Other items you may want to incorporate are a table skirt or other items to make your area look clean and well put together. Your project should include the use of technology, but is not required (though highly encouraged). Finally, you should be well informed and able to intelligently and accurately be able to discuss your topic and answer any questions that you may, and definitely will, be asked. I suggest you start working on your visual presentation sooner than later and may keep your boards or other artifacts in the classroom.
